Ruth James-Morse, our Practice Business Manager joined us on 16th January as. Ruth comes with many years’ experience of GP surgeries and we are sure will be a valuable addition to the team.
We are also very pleased to welcome Rachel Mullane to the team as our new Practice Nurse; Rachel will be working alongside our other Practice Nurse, Marian Clayton.

Paediatric teams at our local A&E departments have been seeing a lot of bronchiolitis patients who could have been more appropriately treated elsewhere. Please read the advice sheet below for more information:-

Trying to handle all requests within 48 hours is in the opinion of the partners becoming unsafe practice as there are now so many queries. We have therefore agreed after much internal discussion to change to a 72 hour (3 working days) maximum timeline for routine requests. In addition to this we would like to now inform you that we are no longer accepting chemist requests unless you are housebound. You will have to bring your own requests into the surgery in person or to order online, (you will need to register for online access, details can be found on our website).
We discussed within the practice having a period in the middle of the day when we are closed. This is very common throughout the country with hundreds if not thousands of practices closing at lunchtime. A closure between 12:30 and 13:30 gives our administration staff the opportunity to complete new training modules, to have a safer handover between the morning staff and the afternoon staff and to generally ensure all work is up to date. All these are important safety issues.
We have asked the opinion of all members of the Furnace Green Patient Participation Group and they universally thought that it was a good idea as long as the phones stayed on which they do.
We therefore trialed this closure for the period 17th October to 19th December and as it proved successful this is now a permanent lunchtime closure.
We are currently not accepting new patients
Patient registrations are now capped. Please be advised because we have now reached in excess of 7,200 patients registered at the surgery our patient register is now capped with effect from 17/08/16. This means we are unable to take on any new patients as our list has been capped for the duty of care to all of our existing patients and for the safety of our clinicians. If this changes in the future please look for details on our website and for new posters in the surgery waiting area.
Appointment Text Reminder
We are now sending appointment reminders by text to all of our patients who we have mobile telephone numbers for 24 hours before their appointments. Please make sure we have an up to date mobile number for you by speaking with a member of our reception team.
AGE UK is running a telephone befriending service where elderly and lonely residents can phone in for a friendly chat with someone. It is a very valuable service that is being taken advantage of by many people across the country.

Plan to Meet GMS / PMS 2015-16 Contractual Requirement for Patient Online Service.
It is a contractual requirement for practices to enable patients to have online access to a more detailed version of their medical record (rather than the ‘Patient Summary’ version currently available online) by the 31st March 2016. This practice plans to offer the facility for patients to view online, export or print detailed coded information held in their own records from this date. When viewing your recorded Data, you must take care in determining your interpretation of what the Data is identifying.
